Scores come in from the NHL every five minutes while games are on, and every pick is graded automatically once its game is final.
No refresh button needed
During games the pool page updates itself: the counts, the standings and who is still alive, without a reload.
Picks lock at the first puck drop
The deadline is the scheduled start of the first game on your pool's game day, not a fixed noon cutoff. First game at 7:00 p.m. ET means picks are open until 7:00 p.m. ET.
Picks stay hidden until they lock
Nobody sees another player's pick before the deadline. Commissioners can, so they can fix a pick that went wrong.

Pool Picks writes to the players who need it, when they need it, and leaves everyone else alone.
24 hours and 2 hours out
Two deadline emails before picks close, sent only to players who still have a pick to make. Already picked? Nothing lands.
One recap the morning after
One email per player the morning after game day: your own entries first, then the pool's week, the prize pool and the next deadline. Not a pile of separate messages.

A clear tie rule
If every remaining entry goes out in the same week, the pool ends there. The prize pool splits equally among the players still alive that week, and each one is emailed their share.
The prize pool adds itself up
Entry fee times paid entries, worked out as players are marked paid. A commissioner can set a different figure whenever the pool needs one.
Who has paid, at a glance

In a winner pool your team has to win. In a loser pool it has to lose. A pool is set up as one or the other, and it stays that way all season.

A player can hold several entries, each with its own pick every week, up to the limit the pool sets.
Auto-pick at the deadline
An entry with no pick when picks lock is given one, so it stays in for the week: the away team of the first game in a winner pool, the home team in a loser pool. It is a fixed rule, not a prediction.
